BALD BOB’S BABBLINGS

Bob & Mary Snipes, Chapter Directors

Hi everyone. Well, I guess it's happened. Mary & I are now your chapter directors. We will need all the support you can muster up for us. I promise we will do our best to serve you and all of chapter B. Please do not hesitate to talk to us about anything that you feel needs to be addressed. It's your chapter.

First I'd like to thank Dawna & Dave for the outstanding job they have done the past two and a half years. It's been a pleasure working with you guys. We look forward to a lot more rides together. Next I'd like to thank Kenn & Nicole for not only being our assistants but for also becoming the chapter newsletter editors. We are really looking forward to working with you guys. I think together we can continue to have the biggest and best chapter in the district.

The Christmas party went off well. I think everyone had a great time and enjoyed the eats. The silent auction went off extremely good and a special thank you goes out to Sue Mydland for all her hard work. Thanks Sue. We were able to raise a little over $800 for our couple of the year to help with expenses at Ft. Wayne, In. this coming July at wing ding. We have faith that Dave & Dawna will bring the title home to Wyoming for the very first time. Everyone should be planning on going to wing ding to support them.

Well, now for some not so good news. By the time most of you are reading this I will have gone back in the hospital for surgery again. I'm scheduled for January 7th. The doctor is going to try to fix me up one more time. Say a prayer and let's hope he is successful. I'll be laid up at home if everything goes well for eight weeks. If things don't go well, who knows what will happen. We will just play it by ear.

Speaking of hospital stays, Griz had his surgery in Denver on the 27th. He was in the operating room for a considerable time but it's my understanding everything went OK. Keep him and Cindy in your prayers also. We will let you know more as we find out.

Well, I don't want to make this thing to awful long so I'll go for this month. If you ride, please ride safe.

KENN’S COMMENTS

Kenn & Nicole Harvey, Asst. Chapter Directors

www.cheyennegoldwing.com

Wow! Another year has flown by, and I wonder where all the time went. I look back over the last year and count my many blessings.

As most of you know, on July 2nd my 1989 GL1500 and I were the victims of a Chevy Blazer that did not realize that a stop sign was more than a suggestion. The insurance company totaled the Goldwing, but thanks to safety gear I was able to get through it without too much difficulty, although an infection in the stitches did allow me to bask in the luxury of United Medical Center for a few days.

Yet, because of that, I was able to purchase "Maelstrom", my new 1800, and the new Goldwing has proven to be a great source of pleasure for Nicole and I.

I have found new friends in the GWRRA and continue to be amazed at the camaraderie between our many members. Chapter B has provided dozens of fun events throughout the year and has continued to be a big part of my life.

I look forward to assisting Bob and Mary with the Chapter and as the new Assistant Director, I hope to attain as high a standard as they have set. I also want to thank Dave and Dawna Hill for including us and for all the laughs!

By the way, Dave Hill bought the 1989 and with a bit of work during his leisure time (yeah, right!), he has the Goldwing up and running. He still has some work to do, but "Talon" will fly again!

RIDE SMART & RIDE OFTEN

By the New Rider Ed Guy

Phil Runyan

Ok everyone, I know just a little more in the rider ed department. I have a contact for CPR/First Aid and all we have to do is get groups of people interested in specific dates for the class and then I can talk to the instructor about scheduling things. I guess I need a tally of all who need or are interested in the class and I can arrange things from there (I hope). Keep putting the miles on, its nice out now that the snow and ice have mostly disappeared. Be careful of those rogue ice patches and sand off to the edges of the tire tracks on the roads. Have fun, really, it’s not that cold outside……

"U" Turn Techniques

by Valerie & Ron Jones
Senior Chapter Educators

Pioneer Chapter of the Great Lakes

The trick for tight "U" turns is knowing that the further the bike leans over, the tighter the turn will be. The technique is to shift your weight to the opposite side of the turn and place most of your weight on the outside foot peg. Lean your bike into a steep angle while turning the handlebars into the turn, keeping the engine pulling. Don't try to coast through a tight turn; you need to keep the engine pulling to balance centrifugal force against gravity. It is also helpful to turn your head in the direction you want to go. If you feel that the bike is going wider than you want it to, you will need to lean it over further. Press and pull on those grips. In order to feel comfortable doing a tight "U" turn, you will need to practice, practice, practice. This is not a maneuver that is done on a regular basis so even the most experienced rider will feel uncomfortable without practice.
