BALD BOB’S BABBLINGS
Bob & Mary Snipes, Chapter Directors
Bob Snipes has undergone several surgeries since his last newsletter article. He is recovering at this time and he and Mary can both use our prayers and thoughts.
We are looking forward to having them rejoin us soon.
Nicole and I also want to thank Bob and Mary for all the guidance that they continue to give, even through this adverse time in their lives.

KENN’S COMMENTS
Kenn & Nicole Harvey, Asst. Chapter Directors
We had a good trip to Green River to attend the Spring District planning meeting last weekend. District Directors, Gordon and Beverly Valasek ran the meeting and Chapter Directors and their staff from throughout the state attended.
Dave and Dawna Hill joined us from Chapter B, although they represented Region I as well, being our Region’s Couple of the Year. They were also appointed as our District COY Coordinators, (a new program) and will assist COY’s who follow them and continue on to compete at the District, Region and/or National levels.
We missed Bob and Mary Snipes, who would have liked to have been able to attend the Spring meeting, but we will look forward to getting them back at the helm in Chapter B as soon as possible!
Somehow Dawna managed to “convince” Nicole and I to represent Chapter B as the 2004 COY at the District Rally. We will do our best to convey the spirit of Chapter B as we move toward that goal.
At the District Rally in Green River, Chapter B will be assisting Chapter F, (Cody’s F-Troop) in running the Top Gun Bike Competition. Anyone who plans on attending and would like to help out, please contact Bob or I and we will be happy to put you to work! There will also be a 50’s Sock Hop Dance event, an Ice Cream Social, a Banquet (only available by District Rally pre-registration), Bike Games (pickles were mentioned), Vendors, a Bike Show and much more!
We are looking forward to a great riding season, plenty of safe miles and many motorcycle related events!
Ride safely and ride often!
-- Kenn

RIDE SMART & RIDE OFTEN
By the New Rider Ed Guy
Phil Runyan
Good day everyone in Chapter B!
Well, we sure are seeing signs of spring, my elm tree is budding, the days are getting longer, the tulips are emerging from the ground and it is getting warmer bit by bit. Makes ya want to go out riding doesn’t it? Now is a good time to catch up on the routine maintenance that you may need prior to riding. Preventative maintenance is a good step toward riding a reliable trustworthy machine.
One other thing that is reliable is the wind, if you go out on a light bike, you sure will gain riding skill in a hurry, there is nothing like fighting a wind to teach you how to lean over to keep the bike on the road. Go out in the wind, challenge yourself, gain some skill and you wont’ be caught by surprise on some long coast to coast trip somewhere.
Be careful of the leftover sand and gravel from the winter snows, one rule of thumb that I use is to ‘stay in the tire tracks’. It is safer there, let the cars and trucks pick up all those nails and move that sand and gravel out of those two paths, which makes your ride that much safer and (flat tire) uneventful.
Have fun, ride safe, challenge yourself, life without challenges gets stale.
CYA on the road!
-Phil

GWRRA chapter B people, I service Honda motorcycles and other types if you have them. If you have routine maintenance work that needs to be completed prior to the riding season, the best time is now to finish the work. Please give a call or contact me at the following addresses:
The availability of parts or waiting to get parts can throw a monkey wrench into a more or less 2-4 day turn around time.
I do have a completed index gallery with about 15 categories of pictures. All you have to do is click on a gallery picture to go to that specific gallery. Keep trying weekly if you are interested, I will have updates continuously.
The web site is www.pcrphoto.com Thank you for your support and I hope you enjoy what you see on your site visit. I am trying to sell my photo’s and now own one of the highest resolution small format digital camera bodies commercially available.
Please let me know if there is something I could do to improve the site.

by Walter Kern from http//:motorcycles.about.com
1.) Assume Drivers Can't See You: Ride assuming that you and your motorcycle are totally invisible to motorists. That means you must never assume that drivers can see you. The odds are, they can't so believe it yourself and always have an "out" for dangerous traffic situations.
2.) Maintain Safe Spacing: Leave plenty of space in front and back and to the sides from all other vehicles. Be an island. Stay away from traffic as much as possible. This gives you more visibility and more time to react to situations.
3.) Anticipate Trouble: Anticipate trouble situations and know what to do when you see them. Analyze what vehicles are doing and try to predict the outcome. Then make sure you're ready to avoid a bad traffic situation
4.) Beware of Oncoming Left Turners: Beware of oncoming motorists turning left in front of you at intersections. This is the leading cause of death of motorcycle riders. I'm deadly serious here. I have personally lost many friends to this accident. If you only remember one tip here, let it be this one. Slow down before you enter an intersection. Have an escape route planned. Stay visible. Don't travel too close to cars in front of you. Position your bike so it can be seen by the left turner. Eye contact is not enough.
5.) Ride Your Own Ride: Don't try to keep up with your friends who may be more experienced. Know your personal limits. Ride your own ride.
6.) Watch Out for Curves: Beware of taking curves that you can't see around. A parked truck or a patch of sand may be awaiting you.
7.) Don't Give In to Road Rage: Do not give in to road rage and try to "get even" with another rider or motorist. If you follow these tips, most likely you won't fall victim to road rage. It's better to calm down, slow down, and collect your thoughts first. Then continue on and enjoy the ride. That's what we're all out there for in the first place.
8.) Don't allow Tailgating: If someone is tailgating you, either speed up to open more space or pull over and let them pass. Life is too short. Remember that a bike can stop faster than a car so you don't want a truck on your tail when you find yourself trying to brake to avoid an accident. Also, don't tailgate the vehicle in front of you. Oncoming drivers can't see you.
9.) Don't Be Blinded by Sunglare: Beware of riding your motorcycle into sun glare. All it takes is turning a corner and finding the sun either directly in your face or passing straight through your windshield. Some helmets have shields to block the sun. Face shields help somewhat. But sometimes you just find yourself blinded by the light. Slow down, pull over, shield your eyes and look for a way to change direction.
10.) Avoid Riding at Night: Avoid riding at night, especially late Saturday night and early Sunday when drunken drivers may be on the road. It goes without saying that you shouldn't drink and ride. Going bar hopping? Leave the bike at home and find a designated driver.
